Borden’s history

Borden is a village in the Rural Municipality of Great Bend No. 405, and it became an incorporated village on July 19, 1907. It takes its name from Sir Frederick William Borden, who served as Minister of Militia in the Laurier Cabinet.

Southeast of the village stands the abandoned Borden Bridge, an arch bridge that once carried Highway 16 across the North Saskatchewan River.

Borden has also given the province a couple of notable names: David Buckingham, a politician, and Savannah Sutherland, an Olympic 400 m hurdler.
